“The Bothy” The Bichan family has been welcoming visitors to Swanbister for over twenty years, many becoming old friends, returning year after year! Swanbister is a busy, family run farm of approximately 1800 acres, producing prime Orkney cattle and sheep. Originally a farm servant’s cottage, the Bothy was re-roofed in the seventies and for several years housed a pottery workshop and studio. In the mid eighties the building was completely renovated and has been in use as a holiday cottage since. The cottage stands in its own grounds with ample parking and a large, enclosed grass play area making it particularly popular with families. A quiet, sandy beach, animals to admire, tractors to scrutinize, a private mill dam to fish and playmates and babysitters always available, makes Swanbister a haven for children. The peaceful tranquillity, deserted beaches, spectacular scenery, the wild life, the archaeology are only a few of the reasons so many of our guests tell us that a week is simply not long enough.
